As the lights go down, thousands of girls scream with anticipation as they wait for the worlds “pop princess” to take center stage and explode into dance. Raised in the suburbs of Louisiana former Mouseketeer, Britney Spears appears accompanied with eye catching flashing lights and dazzling high tech special effects. Sporting a brightly colored halter and a perfectly fitted pair of leather pants, showing off her hard earned abs and well known “Britney booty”, she starts off with another one of her bootylicious dance routines.

Girls of all ages look up to Britney Spears, seeing her as a role model and someone to aspire to be like. Appreciating her ability to stand out from other female performers, girls ranging from the age of eight all the way to twenty find Britney’s lyrical emphasis on girl power inspiring and embrace her. For the last six years they have stood behind Britney while watching her grow up from a sixteen year old teenager in a plaid skirt and knee highs, into a twenty-two year old woman wearing mini skirts and thigh highs. Britney’s fans accept her coming of age and embrace the new images and personas


Britney has definitely physically grown up over the years, but whether or not she has matured too is very subjective. To the minds of teenage girls Britney stands for everything female. Her attitude on life, her clothes, and the messages in her songs all exemplify Britney’s journey from childhood into womanhood without being afraid to talk about all the new experiences and people along the way. However to a protective teenage parent Britney is a piece of trash that needs to be taken out to the dumpster. Convinced that Britney pushes their daughters to dress too provocative and sets unethical standards for teenage girls, parents denounce everything about Britney and the woman she has become.
