Reality shows have become the most-watched programs in America. Jennifer Ringley has her own reality show that can be seen on the Internet at www.Jennicam.org. In her article entitled, "Why I Star in My Own Truman Show," she says, " I had the idea of having my own Truman Show after seeing the Amazing Fish Cam Web site where you can check on a fish twenty four hours a day"(465). Based on my reading of this article by Ringley, I would not attend any party that she hosted. Attending such a party, it would invade my privacy by posting my actions on the Internet. I would also not like to be associated with someone who shares the most intimate moments of his or her life with thousands of strangers. Being a private person, going to a party that is shown on webcam would be a violation of my privacy.
By nature, I am a private person. After reading Jennifer Ringley article, Ringley has a different view of privacy than I do. She states that,"I enjoy my privacy. I just like to enjoy it with the two million or so people who click into my life everyday and night"(466). The definition of privacy is secluded or held confidential from public. Jennifer Ringley has no privacy based on the definition of privacy. I would not attend any party at all much less a party that was going to be broadcasted over the Internet. Instead of parties, I am more comfortable concealed in my room watching a movie. An intimate gathering of friends should never be broadcasted over the Internet. This idea of Ringley's is a horrible decision on her behalf to broadcast this information that puts everyone in a uncomfortable situation. Knowing that your move is being seen by thousands of strangers makes everyone think twice before acting.
At this party, *nobody is going to be themselves. Instead they will become actors on television. Ringley states in her article that "her site is about how normal people live and perform everyday functions"(465).
