The proportion of leadership qualities that is inherited, as against learned, is at the core of this assignment. I have no way of estimating a figure; and simply conclude that the greater part is inherited, but with sufficient leeway in most people for learning and training to play a very significant part. It is of course possible that I am deluding myself since I perceive that I am not a natural leader; at least I can take comfort in any delusion. The problem for me with psychology at this level is that it raises as many questions as it does answers, and that the thinking process is affected by the content. Pity the computer that is asked if it exists or not, or the centipede that has to consider the order in which it moves its legs to walk.
