john lenon interview

1.) Where and when were you born, and what were the early years of your life like? I was born October 9, 1940 during one of the worst bombing raids in the port city of Liverpool, England and lived in the district of Penny Lane until I was age 5 with my mother and father. My father ran away to sea. My mother couldn’t cope with me so I lived with her elder sister Mimi. My dad returned and came to take me back, and I nearly went with him, but before I started packing I decided to stay with Aunt Mimi. I lost my mother twice, the first time being when she left me at five, the second was when I reestablished a relationship with her, she abandoned me again. That time was very hard for me, very, very traumatic, it made me absolutely bitter.

2.) How was school for you? In junior school, in grammar school, I failed miserably. The headmaster recommended me to go to art school. He said if I don’t go there I might as well pack up life. So we arranged for me to go. I went there for five years, I failed miserably there as well. I did, though, develop a great sense of humor, met great people, and had a laugh.

3.) How did you meet Paul McCartney and George Harrison? We met the first day I did “Be-Bop-a-Lula” liv

9.) What do you have to say about the idea of Yoko being the one who split up the Beatles? I’ve wanted to break away from the Beatles since we stopped touring, but I was too scared. I sort of hung around for a bit, and when I met Yoko it was like meeting your first woman and leaving the guys behind. Leaving them at the bar and not playing football anymore. Once I met Yoko, the boys became of no interest to me at all, other then the idea that they were old school friends. Paul also always wanted to be a one-man-band. It wasn’t just Yoko pushing me away.

8.) People say you’re a communist. Why? So people say I’m a communist, well, that’s just a title I have been labeled. People will call me anything they want to, and that’s part of the problem. People are divided into social classes. People have possessions, and other people wanted them. If everyone were equal, no one would be envious, greedy, or would discriminate others. I wrote “Imagine” with that idea in mind. Living in peace is something Yoko and I always preached.

5.) What was your relationship with Brian Epstein? How did he have an impact on the Beatles? There were rumors going around about us having a love affair when we went on vacation in Spain, and it was almost that, it was a very intense relationship and it was my first time spending time with a homosexual. His contribution, though, was immense. He really did organize the Beatles. He told me that if we wanted to get to bigger places, we were going to have to stop eating on stage, swearing, and smoking. So it was basically a choice of eating chicken on stage or making it. Brain terribly wanted to make
