Tourette Syndrome

Tourette Syndrome is an inherited disorder characterized by involuntary utterances and body movements. It was named after Gorges Gilles de la Tourette, a French doctor who first described the symptoms in 1885. This disease affects many people around the world and can basically ruin people’s lives or at least prevent them from leading normal social lives. The cause of this disease is an inherited chemical imbalance in neurotransmitters that carry signals between nerve cells. The symptoms of this disease are numerous and are to say the least, very noticeable. These can include eye blinking, eyebrow raising and head shaking. Also, sadly, there is no known cure for this though some drugs ease the symptoms.

Tourette syndrome is an inherited disease and it affects more males than females. The symptoms, called tics, result from an abnormality in neurotransmitters.
