            The General Public Opinion on Wal-Mart.
             Wal-Mart stores have received various recognitions by their customers and associations that have honored them with awards year after year. Wal-Mart is known for their "aggressive hospitality" practice that they've trained their associates on. The customers overall opinion on Wal-Mart associates is that they go out of their way to show you a smile or give them the exceptional service they deserve. There is a great story on-line about an associate named Sheila at one of the Wal-Mart stores that risked her own life when she jumped in front of a car to prevent a little boy from being struck. These are the kind of things that demonstrate that the Wal-Mart associates go above and beyond the call of duty.
             Wal-Mart has been recognized for their customer service and community involvement for many years. In the year 2002 Wal-Mart was presented with the Ron Brown award for Corporate Leadership, a presidential award for outstanding achievement in employment and community relations. Also in 2002 Fortune magazine named Wal-Mart number one on the Fortune 500 list (see attached article). .
             Wal-Mart has a commitment with it communities by getting involved in offering programs that help education, local & national community causes, children, and the environment by making investments of 12.2 million in education in 2002, 196 million in grants in 2002, 31 million to local children's hospitals in 2001, and more than 15.5 million pounds of plastic and 3 billion pound of cardboard for recycling programs.
