It is the truth to say that children are our future and if that is true, more time and energy should be put into the beginning stages of each child’s life. There are things that can and should be done to help each child live a life that is productive and beneficial to those that they will interact with in their future. The changes that need to be made to better socialize our children for the lives that they will have are not all difficult. The socialization of children consists of them being trained and accustomed to the social environment of life. This initial socialization starts when the child is born and the years before the enter school, around age five or six, and it is this time that is the most necessary for them to have the influence of people that love, care and are able to nurture them. These things that are most needed are the things that are not happening and instead of blaming the problems of the youth of America on music or television, people should look at the homes and the environment in which these and all children are raised.
During the first years of a child’s life they should have the full attention of their parents and the other members of their families. During the last ten years there has
been a higher emphasis on the mother’s going back to work and leaving their children with a nanny or at a daycare. A mother should want to be home with her child during one of the most important and dependent periods of the child’s life. A child in their beginning stage of life needs parents around that are able to make the time for the teaching and the attention that each child has a right to receive. So much of what a child grows up into is being formed in the first five or so years of their life. It is the responsibility and the duty of a parent to do everything they can for their children to see that they are able to have a full life later on. Working is doing something for the child but it is not what is essential at that point in time. This problem, rushing right back out into the work force too soon after giving birth, is something that has to be looked at ahead of time in order to be changed. A mother and father should consider this at the time they realize that they will be bringing a life into the world.
