AMERICA, THE WORLD WAR AND RESPONSIBILITYPeal Harbor, Hiroshima, and September 11, are all similar in many ways. But how similar are they really? All three of these were horrible attacks against a country. Pearl Harbor and 9-11 were attacks on American soil that we were unaware to. All three of the attacks caused the deaths of civilians, and in the case of Pearl Harbor, military personnel as well. All of these events also did something else. They changed history forever. Whether it was America entering WWII, Japan finally being defeated, or America changing homeland security forever, all of these events made a major impact on the history of the world. The parallels of these events cannot be denied. However, they also differed in nature tremendously. Hiroshima was clearly an act of total war against the nation of Japan. What about the attacks on Pearl Harbor, and 9-11? Many consider these attacks as terrorism rather than war. This brings up the debate of weather terrorism is an act of war or not. The
The Government used these same tactics to go to war with Iraq. Saying they were a threat and using the September 11th incident to give reason to attack. We also took it upon ourselves to throw a Dictator out of office that we felt was unsuitable for the country. We find it is our responsibility as a “superpower” nation, to intervene at times we see fit. I feel that it is our duty, to some extent, to intervene. I feel that our power holds us up to a standard that we need to protect those that cannot protect them selves. The movie spider-man may have summed it up the best. In the movie they said, “ With great power comes great responsibility.” It would be irresponsible for us to turn our backs on the little guy. If we can help someone who is being wronged against, then I feel we have no choice but to help them to the best of our ability.
