2. HENRY IV, was a great example of a politique. During his reign there are three Henry's trying to gain sole contorl of the throne. He defeats Henry Guise and Henry III. He then realizes that no one will respect his authority as king unless he is catholic. So he converts to Catholicism, and becomes Herny IV, as opposed to Henry of Navarre. He justifies his actions by saying "Pairs is worth a mass." He then issues the Edict of Nantes in 1598. It makes Catholicism the official religion of France but allows Protestants to worship in selcet areas, the are given 100 fortified towns, and are guarenteed political privalges. Here he made political unity supreme.
