All Summer In A Day
All Summer In A Day – Character Representation Essay‘All Summer In A Day’ is a short story written by Ray Bradbury. In the story Bradbury combines both imaginary and realistic elements. The story is set on Venus, we are not told why. On Venus there is only sun for 2 hours once every 7 years. There is a young girl named Margot who was once on Earth and remembers the sun. Margot is all depressed and feeling sorry for herself. The other children in her class are confused why she is so depressed and lonely. When the sun comes out the children lock Margot in a cupboard and forget about her. In the story many issues and ideas are raised. Some of these issues had been displayed graphically on the graphic character representation. Margot has been represented on the right side of the poster and the other children are represented on the left of the poster. The different characters are divided by a brick wall, which is being built by Margot. The issues that are raised in the story that are represented on the poster are depression, longing for something, hatred, confusion, and longing. First issue that will be looked at is Margot’s depression. In the bottom center of the poster is a picture of Margot building a brick wall
One way this story could be looked at is Margot is ‘building a wall’ to block out all the people on Venus and cant accept the change that has been brought onto her. Margot has it stuck in her head that any place without the sun is not worth living at. Although the other children single out Margot it is clear by Margot’s actions that she doesn’t want to have anything to do with them because they are just a distraction to her main goal that is to live under the sun again. The upper middle part of the poster uses the description from the start of the story to help us understand why the characters are like this. Their environment affects the way they behave. We are not told why these people are living on Venus but we do know that it is not a nice place to live; it is dull and constantly raining. This picture is there to represent this fact.
