Harry Potter: Not Suitable For Children
This review will cover the fourth book in a series of seven called Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (July 2000). Although this is a work of fiction, the underlying tones that the author spells out fit true in today’s society. Joanne K. Rowling, the author, has made it a point to keep her private life just that, private. She was born in England and moved around a lot during her childhood. She graduated from the University of Exeter, and then proceeded to Portugal to teach English. There she married, had a baby girl, and divorced. Upon returning to Edinburgh, England and with very little money, Rowling began to fulfill her dream of being a writer. In between teaching French and caring for her daughter, the first book, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone (September 1998), was written. This book was followed by Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (June 1999) and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (September 1999). The characters in her books are from childhood friends. As children, Rowling and her friends acted out as if they were witches and wizards. Harry Potter is the real name of one of these playmates. Being the first time I read a Harry Potter book, I found it to be very dry during the first 200 to 250
degree murder March 2, 1988 and was sentenced to life in prison. He killed a 13-year old girl while acting out the fantasy-role game. The girl had been raped, her throat cut, and she had been stabbed twice in the chest. Police said his "violent urges were fed by 'extreme involvement in the fantasy role-playing game Dungeons and Dragons.'" (Salt Lake Tribune, 3/2/88). were so engrossed with this game; many have committed suicide or even killed someone else without realizing that they were still playing the game. The main plot for Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire is what happened 13-years prior when Lord Voldemort had control over his followers, known as Death Eaters. This was when they plotted and killed Harry’s parents. Not exactly, the type of images you want a 5-year old bringing to kindergarten. generations to welcome the biblical prophecies of demons and devils. Rowling also As for a children’s book I totally disagree with the author and feel that the classification should be moved to the young adult and above reading levels. If you were to put a cartoon image on a Stephen King novel and show how funny it was, it to could be sold as a book for children, when in reality it is not. kids lie, they steal, they take revenge…This is a disturbing moral world, and it conflicts
