ACTIVITY ANALYSIS REPORT
The activity taught to the group (patient) was to learn how to;Due to a minor incident at home, one member of the group had sustained a minor foot injury. There was a suspected fracture of one of the bones in the left foot because of this crutches had to be used to keep the body weight off the foot. Excessive weight could have caused further damage to the appendage, or even have prolonged the healing time of the bone. The psychological problems, concerning the use of crutches, occurred included; • The equipment being to cumbersome • It being to much effort to go anywhere • It being a slow process to get somewhere
This exercise taught the group to know how to approach the clients on crutches or even with further injuries/disabilities. It was also provided valuable future references in an occupational therapists career. The activity helped the group, as potential occupational therapists, to realise what strains are put on the upper limbs of the body in regards to crutch use. This one particular injury that the group occurred has helped to emphasis how difficult life with a disability can be. This was felt to be a very useful message to take through life, and as quoted by FRENCH (1993) “Professionals have to work to combat institutional discrimination for example, obstacles to disabled people…” The psychological benefits of the activity were to overcome the depression.
