Teen Pregnancy
A long time ago girls were paired or married off at a young age. Most were as young as twelve and thirteen. These young girls had several children before the age of twenty. This was during a time when girls were not allowed a voice; their parents were the matchmakers or the beneficiaries of these alliances. As the decades progressed women were introduced to rights as an individual and to make your own choices and we were evolving into independent women with our own thoughts and opinions. While we were doing this our daughters were still getting pregnant. We made the transition from the bedroom into the boardroom as CEO’s and Presidents, etc... and we were able to stand on our own. Churches have even stepped up and recognized there is a growing need for more youth development in church. Feeling insecure, lonely and frustrated. Does he love me or even care about me? Many programs that provide services to adolescent girls, their babies, and the baby's father, neglect to include other members of both adolescent's family. Services provided to the teenage parent are often spotty, or provided by multiple agencies making it difficult for the adolescent to make good use of them. Much of the research into teen pregnancy has addressed the consequences of adolescent childbearing, and there has been some work in the area of causes, but little has been done in the area of public policy.
