Nazi Rule In Germany

History Essay Joe Murphy Mrs Milarvie

To what extent did the survival of Nazi rule in Germany from 1933-39 depend on their solving Germany's economic problems?

To a certain extent, the survival of the Nazi rule within Germany depended on their solving of the increasing economic problems in Germany. Previous to the Nazi rule, Germany was in a desperate state, unemployment was rising and the country was facing depression. In this state desperate times called for deperate measures and the Nazis provided the solution, hence were voted into power. Hitler realised that in order to stay in power he would have to eliminate political opposition. Through Hitler's policy of Gleichschaltung (co-ordination) the Nazis ensured all organisations such as courts, churches, schools and the civil service were all controlled by one man, Hitler. Following these strict methods, young people were brainwashed into believing Nazi was the way forward in Germany. The creation of Nazi Youth and Nazi Maidens were formed for children and the like. Hitler convinced many Germans that they were the superior 'Ayrian Race' and convinced them that Jews and other groups were inferior. The use of force, violence and intimidation

were let loose to burn synagogues and wreck houses this was better known as Kristallnacht ( The Night Of Broken Glass). Worse was yet to come for the Jews. An awaited decision was made clear on 1939 when Hitler ordered that all Jews were to be put in concentration camps were they would do slaves work or be exterminated upon arrival if seen to be inadequate. Hitler's 'final solution' had murdered over 6 million Jews. By the end of 1939 Germany had become a totalaterian state which controlled many aspects of peoples lives. Hitler's methods became more brutal and ruthless throughout this period.

Soon after Hitler was put in power he processed a domination over Germany called Gleichschaltung (co-ordination) a process designed to bring the nation under total Nazi rule and control. Under this process Hitler took control of the entire nation by; dismissing Jews and anti-Nazis from their posts in the civil service and courts, arresting priests and ministers and eradicating religion from being taught in schools. The only other thing that seemed to stand in his way of his aims was the other political parties. Having already dismissed the Communists, the Social Democrats dissolved, the German National People's Party became disbanded along with the Catholic Bavarian People's Party. Following these actions the remaining Parties of the Catholic Centre Party and the NSDAP folded and every member of the Reichstag was soon a Nazi. Within a couple of months the Nazis had turned the entire country into a one party nation. Hitler had layed all of his foundations for dictatorship. This process virtually guaranteed the Nazis would remain in power for the foreseable future.

With everything in place and no-one having the ability to speak out the Nazis continued to grow in stature and strength. Since Hitler and the Nazis aspired to take total control of society within Germany it was inevitable that the creation of its Youth Policies were crucial. Hitler was a smart indivdual and a great speaker however he always knew in his conscious that he would not win over the older generations, so, with the young being the future of the nation he would assure all youths would be brought up to be loyal to the Swastika ( Nazi badge). Young people were then told to attend Nazi Youth Organisations and that only. This would be the place were they would be brainwashed with Hitler's views and beliefs. Boys were told to attend Hitler Youth where total obedience to the Fuhrer will be stressed. Older
