1984

I984 to briefly sum it up is a novel of a utopian society gone terribly wrong. The novel is based around a character named Winston who is a citizen of Oceania and a member of the outer party. To understand who Winston is you must understand the demographics of Oceania. Oceania is divided among 4 social groups: the enemy, The proles, the outer members, and the inner party members. As much as 80% of the population (The proles) is undocumented and not even cared and seen as a threat to the ruling class. The remaining 19% are Outer Party members and the last 1% are the inner party members. The enemy is any other nation that the inner party is at war with.

The inner party is a very dangerous class of society. Oceania has prompt them as

demigods and the rule every aspect of a outer party member’s life. They used all methods

of control. Propaganda, spies, “Newspeak”, and the notorious thought police. The
