In the film, 12 Angry Men, the jurors or the group demonstrated unmistakably how teams effectively interact, or work together to perform a common task. As the group developed through the film, they clearly exhibit the stages of group development. The trial exemplifies the pre-stage and then jury deliberation. When the first vote was called for, the group came to an eleven to one vote this was the forming stage. Henry Fonda does not truly believe the defendant to be innocent, however, he correctly remarks that the case for the defense may be more believable. The rest of the jury believes that the boy is guilty. From this difference in opinion, reasons for both possibilities are discussed. This discussion is the storming stage where ideas and inputs are questioned in no particular order or organized manner. There are several conformity issues present in the film. In addition, these issues tie in closely to the methods by which the twelve men vote. The reason why these two aspects go together is because other people’s decisions influence how the remainder of people in a group will decide. The people in the group may not think so, but this is true. For example, the very first conformity issue is present in the very beginning of the film when the foreman calls for the first vote to see where the jurors stand. The men did a standard raise of hands to count voted. About eight men (it may have been more, but it was a clear majority of the twelve) instantly raised their hand in favor of guilty. As the rest of the men look around them, three more raise their hands in favor of guilty. The last few to raise their hands raised them because discomfort is generated from being different from the group. These men conformed to the group, so they did not feel like they were irrational or so they did not stand out.
