Chapter five is of course labeled “of Property” because that is the main theme and topic of discussion for that section. Although I wasn’t aware of it through reading the articles, but by seeing the notes at the bottom it is clear that Locke spent a great deal of time reaffirming and negating ideas that other people had come up with. Locke’s discussion “of Property,” and “of Paternal Power” is extremely thorough and undoubtedly gives credit to those previous ideas that he agrees with and negates those with which he doesn’t concur.

Another topic of discussion is that of liberty. A main point that Locke points out is that liberty and freedom cannot exist without law, even though it seems that law is what suppresses them. Locke believes that you can’t know what it means to be free until you have lived and obtained reason, which is what is given to you by being free in the first place.
