A Miracle for Mankind
Cloning is not an easy task, but because of such a growth in research it is worth the difficulties to carry out such an experiment. Cloning is based on nuclear transfer, which involve the use of two cells, the same technique scientists have used for some years to copy animals from embryonic cells. The technique where by a female?s egg is removed, put into a Petri dish, and then fertilized by sperm. More than one sperm fertilizes the egg so it causes the egg to split. The egg does this naturally, exactly how twins are produced. Then the zona coating is removed with an enzyme, and the two eggs are separated. Next, there is an artificial zona coating added to allow the development to proceed around each of the eggs. The cells, at that point, continue to divide and form genetically identical embryos. This procedure will make the future progress for scientific technology more useful. Many Americans believe that cloning interferes with nature, whether it be with animals or humans. Once a mammal is cloned, it gives a whole new perspective to the world, and numerous people grow angry at the idea. The people figured that scientists would begin to discover ways to clone human beings and turn society into a stereotypical and in
Cancer and leukemia are both major killers in the United States, and cloning could help put a stop to them with the right cure. Cancer is a growth of tissue resulting from the rapid production of abnormal cells that attack and destroy other tissues. This attacking and destroying may happen from any type of cell in any body tissue. Leukemia, which is a cancer in the bone marrow, over-produces white blood cells and can be overpowered by improved bone marrow. It is exceptionally rare to find marrow donors that match to that patient, who is sick. ?The problem is that many leukemia patients die because they can not find appropriate donors. With cloning, healthy marrow cells that are perfect genetic matches for a leukemia patient could be created from the patients own cells? (Bailey 3). For cancer, by learning how to switch on and off cells in cloning, there may be a way to find a cure. Scientists still have no clue on how cells differentiate into specific types of tissues and how they lose their differentiation, but cloning could be the key to that question. Some scientists in Wisconsin are trying to figure out how to do this by using cow eggs. ?Such knowledge could lead to cures for cancer teaching doctors how to turn off the uncontrolled growth of cancer cells, advising relatively crude radiation and chemotherapy treatments used today? (Bailey 4). All together, this research and application of cloning can not only improve the life of the person with the diseases but also the spirit of the person?s family and friends. A normal pig organ would be rapidly destroyed by a ?hyperacute? immune reaction if transplanted into a human. This reaction is triggered by proteins on the pig cells that have been modified by an enzyme called alpha-galactosye transferase. It stands to reason, then, that an organ from a pig that has been genetically altered so that it lacks this enzyme might be well tolerated if doctors gave the recipient drugs to suppress other, less extreme immune reactions. (Wilmut 4) Other than diseases, medical treatments for heart attacks and other health related problems can be cured by cloning. With the technology of cloning, scientist can reverse heart attacks. If they clone healthy heart cells, then the scientists can inject them into the damaged areas of the heart. This would not only prevent heart attacks, but it would also prevent heart disease. Another factor in medical research is failure of organs, like talked about before, these can be cloned and used. Last, a procedure that may change the medical division, is the removal of defective genes. A regular person carries eight defective genes and by cloning, these genes can be erased and the person no longer has any trace of disease or malfunctions. ?With cloning and its technology it may be possible to ensure that we no longer suffer because of our defective genes? (?The Benefits? 2). Now, with cloning and medical technology teaming up, the future looks better for the world. Using animals for testing makes scientists expose an issue that is morally wrong, but by cloning animals and using them for research, scientists are discovering more. Americans never liked the concept of using animals for testing. If people were to look at it in a different way, they could see by learning to clone and use these animals for research, improves cloning by practice. ?Through the research leading up to human cloning, we should discover how to clone animals and plants to produce life saving medications? (?All the Reasons? 2). Also many helpful solutions are coming from the cloning of these animals, so they are basically assisting the world. different place to live. The fact remains that cloning is a major part of upcoming technology, ?Cloning research holds glittering promise for medicine, and many scientists fear that a hastily enacted ban might inadvertently halt research that could cure disease and save lives?
