A Journey to the Center of the Earth

Professor Hardwigg yells excitedly to Harry. Harry ran to the professor to find him sitting in front of a very old looking book, with yellowed pages and hand-made cover. Harry is starving, but forgets about it over the strange excitement. Harry asks Professor Hardwigg what all of the excitement is over so he explains: The book is an old Icelandic book written by Heims-Kringla, a very brilliant author from the twelfth century. Harry reaches over and grabs the book, and a manuscript written in a different hand falls out. The professor quickly discovers the author of it being Arne Saknussemm, a brilliant alchemist of the 16th century who was killed because of his views. The Professor and Harry can’t decode the document. The professor gets very frustrated and vows that he won’t eat or sleep until he decodes the parchment. After a while, even he gets frustrated with it and leaves the office in which they are working. Harry picks up the small document and looks at it as he smokes!

from his pipe. He starts to get warm so he fans himself with the parchment, amazingly when he turned it upside down, he was able to easily read it. It said the exact location and a short story of how to find the center of the earth. T

About ten minutes later their was a great explosion, and the ocean started to pull them into the new entrance of the cave. It was very hot inside the cave and the water was boiling. The boat went around the twist and turns like a roller coaster and started to go up a almost vertical path. They were in the center of a volcano, that had started to go off. They fell out of the top of the massive volcano, and were back on earth, instead of inside of it. They ended up in Asia on the Malay Islands. Soon on a ship heading home.

Why does Santiago identify himself with DiMaggio:

They have a good nights sleep and set of the next day. Harry walking ahead of the group looks around after a while of daydreaming and notices that no one is around and that the river is no longer next to him. He assumes that the river just sunk below the floor and that the Professor and Hans are just way behind him. After a long time he starts to panic. He starts yelling, “Uncle, Hans.” He thought that he heard a faint answer, he was correct, they were all split up, the decision made is to go downwards. Harry goes down to where there is an opening and he falls asleep. He is awoken by his uncles voice. The Professor shows Harry the great Underground Sea, and the raft the Hans had started to build out of the ropes, (while he was asleep) that they brought along and of driftwood. The sea was just like any normal one. It seemed lit from the sun, however this was known to be impossible.

The Professor wakes Harry excitedly and tells him how Hans had heard water just down a path with that, Harry was able to move again, slowly but surely. They reach a point where the water is the loudest and seems just behind the wall. Hans takes an axe and begins the attack the wall. After he had made a grove about two feet in the wall he hits it one more time, and water came shooting out. Harry is so thirsty sticks his mouth near the powerful jet of water, and gets burnt. The water cools quickly and starts to form a stream heading down the tunnel. The trio camp out here and have a feast! The Professor says that the next day is a do what you want day. He draws diagrams of the entire journey and decides that they are somewhere under the Ocean. Harry sits lazily and thinks of the Professor daughter on who he has a crush, Hans just sat their.

The story is about Santiago a Cuban fisherman who goes through many conflicts with nature and himself.
