There are many medicines used to treat ADD and ADHD, another common one is Ritalin. In 1994, doctors stated that they preferred Adderall to Ritalin three to one. Adderall’s effects last eight to ten hours usually only requiring one dose per day compared to a four hour drug requiring two to three doses of Ritalin. Adderall is intended for a child at school, he or she will not have to leave class to go to the nurse to take their medicine. This helps the student to not be known as the one with ADD or ADHD. It can get embarrassing. Adderall is given to the children on school days and not weekends, holidays or vacations. This is so the child does not become dependant and does not miss out on the fun of being a kid and running around outside and playing with other kids.

Over three million children are diagnosed with these conditions. Some say that ADD AND ADHD are over diagnosed, and has become a large controversy. Many children are diagnosed with ADD just because they are loud and run around, but sometimes that is just what kids do. So if around 25% of schools have ADD or ADHD a medicine is needed to calm them down and to help them learn. Adderall is indicated for use in children three years and older with ADD or ADHD as an integral part of a total treatment program, which typically includes psychological, educational, and social measures.
