A Wedding Dress
“Do you take this man to be your lawful lovely husband,” said the Rabbi in my cousins’ wedding. This day is the day that every woman dreams of, her wedding day. When she was a little girl, she used to plan this day with all her girlfriends, picturing it to be that “picture perfect wedding”. Everyone has a dream of what they want their wedding to be. Is it on going to be on the top of the hill, on the beach during a sunset, or eloping? There are many different types of weddings, but to that particular woman, it’s her little touch that makes her wedding unforgettable. Planning a wedding ceremony is time consuming, and takes a lot of compromising of both families, brides and grooms. For the bride to stand out, the most important part to her is her wedding gown. The most amazing piece of clothing that she’ll wear in her lifetime. Every woman dreams of that “perfect” gown. Although, a wedding wouldn’t have that finally special touch if it was not for that perfect gown, the one that everyone will be talking about for a lifetime. Picking out that perfect gown takes time and effort. One has to decide on the cultural, formality, color, size, style, material, accessories, money, coordinating with the rest of the weddi
ng, and finally trying to please everyone’s taste. Next, color is one of the main decisions to make in picking out the “perfect” gown. This takes a lot of compromising from the mother, mother-in-law, and the bride. Should the dress be classic white, winter white, or off white? On the other hand, should the dress be egg shell, beige, or cream. Deciding on the color depends on what season the wedding takes place in, and other different circumstances that may affect the bride. Pure white is if she is a virgin, then there is off white for the non-virgins. If the wedding starts after six o’clock in the evening then she should have a formal, more elegant look to her, the black tie affair look. The groom should have a tuxedo on that reflects the dress, but doesn’t show too much. This is so, because he doesn’t want to take the attention away from the bride. If the wedding is a morning affair then the bride should be more conservative, and more of a simple look to her. This all shows that each aspect of the wedding has to go into consideration when picking out this dress. Where would be the perfect place to start, what would be the first step in picking out this unforgettable dress? Well, one should first decide if their dress is going to be something else, besides the typically wedding dress. Is their dress going to be from a certain time, cultural, or a hand me down? Is their dress going to be a renaissance dress, or the modern movie star look? If she is from a certain cultural that has a tradition to follow then she has to look for that kind of dress. Or is she going to wear her mothers wedding dress. This is going to be the first decision the bride to be has to make when starting to shop for the perfect gown. How hard could this process be, picking out a single piece of clothing? Going on, coordinating the dress with out the groom seeing the it before
