Abortion

Within the last 20 years or so, abortion has been one of the most intense topics being talked about in the United States and Canada. Abortion is a topic of human interaction where ethics, emotions, and the law come together. There are people that have dissimilar views of abortion, but no matter what their view is, they fall into two categories. There is pro-choice and the pro-life attitudes about abortion. These are the only two categories that people’s views fall into. A pro-choice person feels that the choice to abort a pregnancy is that of the mother’s and the government has no right to interfere. A pro-lifer feels that from the moment of conception, the embryo or fetus is alive. Since this embryo or fetus is alive and is a person, a woman has no moral right to abort the young life. If a woman aborted the embryo, then she would be committing murder.

Murder is such a strong word. Murder means deliberate and unjustified killing of another person. Pro-lifers use this word a lot as a way to show what happens when you abort an embryo or fetus. The mother doesn’t want to kill a baby; she wants to stop the growth of an embryo before it becomes a baby. If the mother aborts the embryo at an early stage

There are many different reasons why women have abortions. It may be a case of rape, or a physical or psychological condition. A choice needs to be available to prevent the birth of unwanted children, to avoid damage to the child as well as women. Preservation of life seems to be a slogan rather than a real goal of the anti-abortion forces; what they really want is power, to have power over our behavior and power over women’s choices. Abortion is a tough choice and the decision should be a personal one, without intrusion of government or special interest groups. Losing safe and legal abortion would mean reducing women to “ childbearing machines” It would mean turning our backs on the technology we have, and it would also fail to recognize women as independent human beings. It would bring more meaningless deaths from the illegal and self-induced abortions and more pain for women.

My personal opinion is that all women have the right to decide whether she wants to abort an unwanted pregnancy. Some women keep in mind that terminating a pregnancy might have to do with the health of the pregnant woman, or maybe this woman is unable to concentrate on the child’s needs after it’s born. Abortion may save a child who could potentially have a mental disease or have to suffer child neglect. Most common reasons for abortions to occur include failed contraception, rape, serious medical complications for the mother, which could lead to death. In these situations, abortion is often the only way that prevents the birth of an unwanted child or saves a woman’s life.
