Al Gore jr. was born on March 31, 1948. Since the day he was born his parents were proud of him. His dad, Al Gore sr., was quoted saying to a reporter for the Nashville Tennessan, “ If I have a baby boy, I don’t it buried on the inside of the paper I want it on the Page 1 Where it belongs. Little Al Gore weighed nine pounds two ounces when hr was born. Al’s dad wanted him to spend a fair amount of time growing up on his family’s two hundred fifty acre farm. Al would spend long weekends, summers, holidays, and his entire seventh year of his life on the Carthage property. His dad felt that being around “plain people”, that grew crops and raised livestock, would help Al Gore grow character. One of the most life changing events in his life was when he went to Vietnam. He was on his way to join the most demoralized army in American history. This army was no longer interested in winning, but more in getting their duties done so they could return home safely. He arrived in Vietnam on December 26,1970. He was an army journalist assigned to the 20th Engineering Brigade. The engineers built roads, tunnels, airstips, and ports. While over there he had to deal with stuff that he had never dealt with before. Although Albert never was in the position were he had to kill or be killed, but he was fired upon several times. While over Al explodes new stuff. Over in Vietnam marijuana was abundant, and Al had more than his share of it. One of Gore’s greatest interests while he was over there was his company basketball team. They practice almost every night on a asphalt court. Gore still today remembers most of those games. Gore spent plenty of time in the field cove!

His mom’s name was Pauline Gore. She was also a bug part in al’s life, by showing him good morals and respect for others.

Among all the people that were close to Clinton, Clinton wanted Al Gore to be his running mate. Clinton admired Gore’s intelligence and his grasp on the issues. It was Wright’s conviction that the choice was based almost entirely on Clinton’s assessment of Gore. The one political skill that Clinton did particular admire the most is his ability, like many other successful candidate, to stay “ on message”. If Gore’s career says nothing else, it clearly defines him as a man not to easily distracted. There were other political advantages. Clinton knew that Gore would prevent the Gulf War from becoming an opposition issue and, with luck, could even turn into a net plus for the Democratic ticket. As a Vietnam veteran, Gore could blunt at least some of the “draft dodgers” catcalls against Clinton. Clinton was also aware of Gore’s standing with the environmental activists. Clinton’s own environmental record in Arkansas was marginal, soiled, among other things. On the cultural issues from welfare to the death penalty, Gore was a solid moderate; the sort who could blunt Republic charges that Democrats were soft on the crime and indulgent of people unwilling to work. In short, Gore could help Clinton win back the Democrats who were less than impressed by George bush. By his retreat on his no sale tax pledge, and his wobbliness on “social issues” where occasionally strident seemed a cover for an administration more comfortable in the middle of the road, casting doubts on the administration’s sincerity. Gore knew he would have to shirt left on abortion rights. He would have to mute differences over the line item veto, which Clinton wanted and Gore opposed. Generally he two were a good fit, having been partners in the centrist Democrat Leadership Council and the Progressive Policy Institute, and having a new, moderate Democratic image. The official call from Clinton came at 11:15 PM on July 8, formally offering Gore the Number two spot. G
