Lindows

Lindows: A Partnership with Wal-Mart To

Although Microsoft Corporation seems to have a hold on the home and business computer operating system, Lindows a Linux based windows program that offers to run many of the programs made exclusively for Microsoft Windows is being strategically marketed to the public by a partnership with Wall-Mart. Formerly sold only as an operating system, Lindows owners have made a decision to reintroduce the product pre-loaded onto a computer system exclusively sold on Wall-Marts online store. Combined Wall-Mart and Lindows are packing a great system for a cheap price which has caught the consumer’s eye and seems to be the best deal on the market.

Lindows was started by Michael Robertson, the founder and former Chief Executive Officer of MP3.com. He now is the current Chief Executive Officer and founder of Lindows. Kevin Carmony has served as the Lindows president and Chief Operations Officer since the inceptions of Lindows also. The mission of Lindows was to bring choices to computer user through extremely affordable options. This was to be done by introducing the product at a low cost and a yearly fee.

Lindows was sued my Microsoft Corporation in December of 2001 for the use of the name Lindows using Windows as a sales strategy. Microsoft unhappy because of the amount of time and money spent to successfully market their name that is now known in every home in the United States and many other countries abroad wants to shut down Lindows. In the law suit Lindows fought that since inception of Microsoft Windows 1.0 in 1985; other interfaces had preceded the overlapping window feature making the term “Windows” a generic term. The trial is still ongoing and the outcome still to be seen. Microsoft is pursuing the rights of the noun “Windows” opposed to the adjective “window” or “windowing.” Lindows created by combining Linux and Windows assumes the fact that since before Microsoft Windows was released the public used the term windows to name a type of software that allowed overlapping screens. The last ruling was to allow a jury to rule on the issue of genericness to start on April 7, 2003.

Lindows is privately held and owned by the founders and creators of the operating system. Because Lindows is private it has no stock symbol nor does it appear in any markets currently. Interested investors can fill out a contact mailing list at www.lindows.com to be notified if Lindows goes public or if any other investment opportunities in the company become available.
