Analysis of Changes
There are many different kinds of music that exist in the world today, but none that are as controversial as rap music. To date, one artist has stood out above the rest. This man is Tupac Amuru Shakur. By some he is called heretic and accuse him of spreading violent lyrics and promoting drugs and crime. To others he is considered a provocative poet and a story teller. An example of one of his controversial and provocative song is “Changes”. Tupac discusses the social stresses of the black race in America, he explains how the situation of blacks in America became so bleak, and why it is so difficult to change the situation. He also uses repetition and slang to portray this. African Americans today living in the projects live in re-occurring violence and have endured this type of lifestyle for decades. Tupac goes so far as comparing the struggle to war in the middle east. “It’s war on the streets and the war in the Middle East.” Many blacks also find themselves being harassed by other black gang members, but also by a member of the alternate gang - the police. To that extent Tupac says But now I’m back with the blacks givin’ it back to you Don’t let ‘em jack you up , back you up, crack you up and pimp s
This has been the case for many years. “I see no changes wake up in the morning and I ask myself is life worth living should I blast myself ?” He goes on to explain this by mentioning how the FBI first tried to localize the area in which blacks live that people call the “Ghetto”, next by introducing drugs into the neighbourhood, and then guns. They then just sat back and watched the blacks kill each other. “First ship ‘em dope and let ‘em deal the brothers give ‘em guns step back and watch ‘em kill each other” If anyone ever tried to stand up for the black race they ended up dead. Tupac gives the example of Huey, leader of the Black Panthers, but there are many others such as: Malcolm X, and Martin Luther King. All three of these civil rights leaders were assassinated. “It’s time to fight back that’s what Huey said 2 shots in the dark now Huey’s dead” The only way out of this is for blacks to start trusting each other. “ Learn to see me as a brother instead of 2 distant strangers” This so called controversial music in my eyes is far from that. Tupac is just trying to inform people around him about the hardships that of the black race in America, how this situation became so bad and why it is so hard to change. He helps deliver these points by using repetition and slang terms. The song “Changes” by Tupac Amuru Shakur is one that touches many peoples hearts because of the meaning it has behind it. hey get jealous when they see ya with ya mobile phone” To better help portray the situation of blacks in
