The book of Daniel portrays a deeper faith in God during difficult times, while maintaining high dreams for the future. This book proclaims that evil cannot defeat God’s purpose for His righteous followers. Daniel’s book is not only inspirational, but when taken to a deeper level, it reveals a lot for the reader to discover. One of the best ways to ‘dig deeper’ into the meaning of the text, is to examine the structure and the other elements within its configuration.

Section two (7-12) can be described as apocalyptic, or revelatory. Daniel is granted visions of things to come including the destiny of the Nation of Israel. His first vision (7) included an image of four beasts, representative of four kingdoms that will arise. He prophesied of horrible things to come, and the persecution of God’s holy people. God sent Gabriel to explain this vision of the ram and the goat to Daniel, because to Daniel, this was very troubling and confused him enormously. Daniel never lost faith, however, and continued to pray for the people of the nation.

The people of Daniel’s time had not yet received the gift of Christ and His eternal promises. The blessings given to Daniel inspired the people of the Old Testament to develop their faith in God. Unsure of what the future held, these people needed proof of a sovereign God, and desired a promise for the imminent. Through Daniel, God provided His people with that promise. Although the term sovereignty itself is not heavily mentioned in this book, its implications certainly are. Although divided into a historical and a prophetical section, these parts (also viewed as the past, present, and the future) come together to form one central idea. This one idea is that God is unchanging and mighty throughout all of time!
