Thomas Jefferson stated in the Declaration of Independence that, “all men are created equal; that they are endowed by our creator with inherent and inalienable rights.” This being true and held constant, smoking should be allowed in public. Allowing the government to slowly take over parts of our lives and control them, will eventually lead America into a state of Communism. The government cannot and should not attempt to control smoking. There are many other dangerous situations that are not monitored or controlled by the government. Certain amounts of

Anti-smoking campaigns also say that second-hand smoke is especially dangerous to children, causing ear infections and a higher risk for asthma. Though this is true, it is also true that many other factors also put children in danger. Pollution in the air caused from the exhaust of cars has also been proven to increase a child’s likelihood of becoming asthmatic. This however, does not affect the endless numbers of people driving each day. Children are put at risk in many situations that are out of the control of people, and it is up to each child’s parents whether their child will be subjected to it. People are not forced to go to restaurants that allow smoking. They are also not forced to take their children to such places if they do not choose to do so, but it is a ‘choice’ that is the parent’s, not the government’s.
