Marlin Brando
The first film, A Streetcar Named Desire, has Marlin Brando playing Stanley Kowalski. He works in a factory and was active in WWII. Kowalski is a man who loves to drink, bowl, and play card with his friends. After having a few drinks Kowalski becomes violent. Some times he hits his wife who is turned on by his explosive temper. His wife, Stella, has a neurotic sister named Blanche. Blanch DuBois claims she is only going to be in town for a short stay. She ends up staying well over five months. Through the story Blanch tells everyone that she had lost the family plantation, Belle Reve. Kowalski has been very suspicious of Blanche ever since she arrived and started looking into what her motivations really were. He discovered a secret of Blanches that she would not want getting out: she seduced a seventeen-year-old boy in the English class she taught. When the secret is found out Blanch looses it, and in turn is taken to an institution. In The Godfather, Brando plays the title character, Don Vito Corleone. Don Corleone is the New York Mafia boss who is almost killed when he does not join another gangster’s drug business. Not only is he the head of the Mafia family, he is also the head of a large Sicilian family. H

The costumes are mostly clothes that you would see anyone wearing in 1951. Stanley dresses mostly in working cloths, a t-shirt and pants, and occasionally he wears a suit and a tie. His shirts are tight fitting which was a problem because they rip when he would get into fights. Stella is in dressed and skirts. When we find out she is pregnant she is dressed in bigger shirts along with her skirts. Blanche has a variety of dresses and accessories that she wears. We never see Blanche in the same dress twice, while the other character wore mostly the same type of clothing the whole movie. Lighting was used to convey emotion, suspense and mood in the movie. Shadows played a big part in showing the viewers that the Kowalski’s were not well off. Light is also never really shown on Blanches face. This is used to hide the real age of Blanche and give her some mystery. When we finally see her face in full light we understand that she is not really who she portrays herself to be. She is older than she revealed herself to be and she has this ‘used’ look to her. The music added to the
