Attack on America
On September 11 2001, Americans awoke to find our country under attack. The country went into a state of shock. Many including myself kept on asking, who could of done such a thing to the United States and why? After the initial shock Americas next step was to find a way to respond to these acts of war. But how can this be done, and what will be the response of the rest of the world? Well as every paper, or TV. Newscast shows, the rest of the world is reacting in many different fashions, either through global unity, state primacy or cultural pluralism. In the following paper I will show how these responses are already evident in the responses of various acts, and also how I think the proper way of responding to the acts of war using these perspectives. The first perspective that I will examine is Global Unity. Global unity is very important in the way the United States is responding to the acts of terrorism against them. Presidents from across the globe including Britain, France, Germany, and Saudi Arabia, among others, have come to America about forming an alliance against terrorism (6). I feel this is essential to the success on ending the taliban, and other terrorist groups through out the country. However these alliances
Overall I believe that the best way to respond to these attacks is through a combination of ideas taken from both the Global Unity and State Primacy viewpoints. The world must continue to come together to fight the war against terrorism. Terrorism is a problem that is spread in over 60 countries (1). To truly put an end to this violence the whole globe has to come together and became dedicated to fighting the cause in any means necessary. That may mean that countries allow use of military bases, refueling of American planes, or even just an understanding that they are there to help the cause and hinder it in any way. The key to all of this is cooperation with each other. In the words of President Bush, “It will not end until every terrorist group of global reach has been found, stopped, and defeated (1). State Primacy has played a major role in the United States recovery of the actions on September 11. A renewed sense of patriotism has spread from both young and old in the states. American flags are waved in front of many homes; Wal-Mart has sold 15 times more flags the day of the tragedy than the same day last year (12). Hundreds of normal citizens flooded to the world trade center to try and assist the already battered New York City firefighters and police officers. Even people in states such as California were willing to take the time and wait hours in line to donate blood in hopes of saving the lives of fellow Americans. While some believe Paternalism is done for the good of only the “parent country” (13) I believe it also benefits the rest of the world. Terrorism is a worldwide problem that needs to stop. The United States needs to play the father role in order to gain support from other countries, and even if that means to play the part of a bully. Cultural Pluralism is a perspective that gives increased power to ethnic groups. This power is meant to increase inequality and mutual respect of these ethnic groups. This added power has given some groups power over entire countries, such as the Muslims of the taliban. The taliban and many other devout Muslim groups in Afghanistan, Pakistan, and other surrounding Muslim countries believe they have the obligation to defend each other just because they are Mus
