Beowolf and Jesse Ventura

Beowulf and Governor Jesse Ventura of Minnesota have many similarities and differences. They are both thought of as heros. Jesse Ventura is a self-created political figure and Beowulf was a made up legend. Jesse Ventura won as a third party candidate for the governor of Minnesota and Beowulf defeated Grendel in a battle, which were two incredible accomplishments. Jesse Ventura and Beowulf are also two very un-modest heros, and they speak their minds.

They are both thought of as heros, though they came from different time periods and led totally different lives. Jesse Ventura was a navy SEAL, a movie actor, and a professional wrestler. He created his image to be a larger-than-life warrior type. He worked hard, running as a third party candidate for the governor of Minnesota and won.

Beowulf was a made up legend who had super-human qualities. During the Dark Ages Beowulf was an epic that was told by the Anglo-Saxons. Beowulf was brave enough to fight Grendel with his bare hands and the author tells us that Grendel:

Saw that his strength was deserting him, his claw

Bound fast, Higlac's brave follower tearing at

His hands. The monster's hatred rose higher,

Jesse Ventura ran as a third party candidate for the governor of Minnesota even though most third party candidates don't have a chance. Democrats and Republicans have been known to exclude third party candidates from debates. Third party nominees have to make due with less press attention and money. When they do receive media coverage it can be distorted. Many voters end up ignoring them because they don't know as much information about them. Most politicians tell people what they want to hear, but Jesse Ventura told people the truth. Jesse Ventura convinced many young people to vote for the first time. He used the Internet which influenced mostly young, first time voters. The Internet gave him a 2% - 4% lead, which was the margin of victory in the campaign.

Jesse Ventura was a wrestler, but he never harmed his opponent as badly as Beowulf did. Both Beowulf and Jesse Ventura were strong, champion-like figures.

Like Jesse Ventura becoming the governor of Minnesota, Beowulf accomplished something amazing too: he fought Grendle and killed him. When Beowulf and the Geats heard that Grendel had taken over Herot, the mead hall, they traveled to the land where Hrothgar reigned to save the people. They risked their own lives by traveling by boat to save the others. Beowulf wasn't just going to kill Grendel while he was sleeping, he was going to kill him in battle because that was the honorable way to do it. Grendel was a monster that no one could destroy, but Beowulf claimed that he could destroy him with his bare hands.

Jesse Ventura and Beowulf were two similar heros. Although Jesse Ventura is a political hero and Beowulf is a made up legend, they had very similar attitudes about things. They both had great accomplishments in their lives, for Jesse Ventura it was winning as a third party candidate for the governor of Minnesota, and for Beowulf it was destroying Grendel in battle. They both speak their minds and are very un-modest which can be good and bad attributes at times
