Block scheduling is the restructuring of the school day into classes that are much longer than the original 50-minute periods. A block schedule is different than the traditional 50-minute six to seven period days because it limits the number of classes in a school day to four and increases class time to 90 minutes. The proposed plan is to the disadvantage of the student. Students who miss a day of school due to any reason will be missing essentially two days from the traditional schedule. Some teachers will not adapt well and will have trouble teaching for 90 minutes and students that transfer to a new school in mid-year may not be in the same ciruculum.
