The position of the Caseworker shall be filled by action of the Assistant Director or Sight Supervisor, Youth Services of Buck County, Inc.

Attempting to find the success rate and overall effectiveness of Case Managers council of a juvenile is unfeasible. Case Managers that are unsuccessful are most likely hesitant to provide information on the case. How effective is the concept of Case Manager? I did not ask Ms. Winokur, nor would I think about it. If the rehabilitation is not effective, I feel it is a result of a failed upbringing and faulty justice system rather than a motivated individual trying to help.

-Placing youth and community programs

I asked Ms. Winokur about the role of sexism in comparison to the increase in female Caseworkers. She replied, “In the 1970’s, 1980’s, and even early 1990’s, it seemed that men dominated the Criminal Justice Field. Woman’s role may have increased do to the development of new Criminal Justice Branches. Sexism certainly exists, but only to a degree. Sexism is underlying, always in the back of my mind. But since I have authority as Caseworker Supervisor, I don’t think of it as much as before.”

I had prearranged a series of questions in preparation for the interview. The majority of questions centered on several subject matters including Ms. Winokur’s job title and duties, her dealings with juveniles, and any existence of sexism in the workplace. My first initiative was to get Ms. Winokur’s interpretation and description of a Juvenile Case Workers duty. Her reply was “In the Youth Service Agency, a Case Manager Supervisor is given youths who have been in trouble with the law. It is the Case Managers job to attempt to get the youth back on track. The Case Manager Supervisor is also in charge of other Case Managers throughout the Agency”.
