Video games are so diverse in the world today that it is hard to put them into categories. Some of them contain all the categories I described in this paper and some are in categories of their own hopefully you will understand the different types of video games more clearly after reading this.

Puzzle games usually consist of some sort of visual representation of a problem, like fitting of various 2d shapes into a certain area like Tetris. Or detecting mines in a virtual minefield like in Microsoft’s minesweeper.

First person shooter games involve a realistic computer generated world where real life physics apply. You are represented by a Person, or animal in some cases. You can control this entities movement, actions, and communication in real time, meaning when you press the Up arrow key the player in the computer generated world will move forward instantly. Unfortunately First person shooter games are usually simulations of combat and contain weapons like grenades firearms and swords. You the player can use these weapons to defeat computer-controlled players that can move and shoot as well.
