Cold War
The cold war erupted in 1945 for various reasons. To a large extent of hostility arose from the American’s side, as well as from the Soviet’s side. There were many things that occurred during 1945-1948, from the first conflicts between Russia and the U.S. in Iran to the Berlin Blockade in 1948. As well as past conflicts contributed to the Cold War. And as time passed, more and more tension grew between the two nations. From past conflicts to apposing worldviews, tension grew. One of the first things that sparked tension between the U.S. and Russia was the conflicts between Russia and the U.S. in Iran. For six months after the war, there was to be no foreign troops in Iran. However, the Soviet did not remove their troops. What’s even worse the Soviets decided while they’re there, why don’t the help spread communism in Azerbaijan. I ran also began to take over parts of northern Iran. This began to spark a little tension out of the Americans and the British, for they feared that if not acted upon sooner, the entire country would have been taken. In 1948 the Berlin airlift took place. Stalin cut off routes entering into Berlin and cut off all the electricity in Berlin. On June 24, 1948 General LeMay began to fly supplies into Berlin. But Russia was stubborn and on July 14 the responded by saying that the Americans had no more right to be in Berlin and refused to take down the blockade. The Western response to Russia was made by one U.S. general, Donovan, declared on July 17, 1948 "The place to make a stand against Russia is right here in Berlin. This in not a Cold War. It is Hot as Hell...Their motives are just what the Soviets have said - to stop the ERP - and what they have not said - to drive us out of Europe. If the soviets want war they can start it 500 miles to the west just as well as here." Basically this meant that no threats made by Russia would push the U.S. out of Berlin. So you can see much of what occurred during 1945-1948 brought out a great deal of tension between the two super powers. And these tensions made the war what it was, a long annoying 46 years. The most influencing event that brought up the most amount of hostility between America and Russia was the Berlin Blockade. Stalin was upset that the allies did not leave Berlin at the end of World War II. Stalin believe
