During the time period where children mature into teenagers, they are said to be the easiest to influence. Therefore, when children are growing to become teenagers, they tend to admire their parents and lean on them for support and guidance, but most importantly, love. When a parent fails to give the support, guidance, and love, the child is neglected. As a result, the child searches for the love and care elsewhere. There can be many places and a variety of people where the child may retrieve the love, but many result in other children

A women’s place is further enforced as the female becomes an adolescent and she learns the do’s and don’t by parents, school personnel, and others in life. It was believed that the women’s movements was a causal factor in the increase of female delinquency, but research suggests that norms and expectations for girls remains unaltered. (Parillo, 1991). In some girls low self-esteem was tied with juvenile delinquency, often this occurs while girls are in the adolescent years in school.

These programs provide the support that the delinquent females need to start a new future away from their troubled past.

After reading the studies conducted by Lind and Sheldon, it appeared that their method of conducting analysis was efficient, for the most part. They took a sample of ten girls that were in a short-term residential treatment program for female juvenile offenders. They ranged from twelve to seventeen years of age, with a highly diverse ethnic group. The girls came from upper-middle class to lower class families. Their offenses ranged from truancy to using and selling drugs. School was not so important to these girls and they had very low ambition to further their education. Overall, these girls came from broken homes, with abusive parents. They felt that in order for them to fit in with their clique, they had to commit delinquent acts.
