Diversity
Diversity is what we chose to analyze based on the desire to understand an inclusive environment and be able to incorporate this into our companies. This paper will describe diversity and it’s importance to the workplace environment. We plan on describing how a company should evolve into an inclusive environment. We will analyze three different companies and discuss the importance of diversity in these organizations. We then will create a diversity benchmark for corporations to incorporate into their policies. Diversity is defined as “describing human qualities such as race, gender, and ethnicity that are different from our own and outside the groups to which we belong” (Gibson, pg. 477). As a result, the company encourages a culture that supports and inspires personal development both within the workplace and beyond. Mentoring, training, advancement paths, career mobility, and work-life programs are just a few of the initiatives and programs that bring to life the forward-thinking approach. Many organizations have a favorit pool from which to pull prospects from, and that is understandable when good employees continually come from these sources. But good people can also come from different schools and backgrounds than the “traditional” sources. Corporations should look to previously untapped places to find qualified people. Along those lones, if an organization continually asks the same people to recruit, these people will most likely continue to look for people who are more like them. Recruitment practices can make a large impact as to the amount of diversity an organization can experience.
