Once upon a time in a far off land called Shatilay, there lived a beautiful princess named Sarah. She had hair of gold and eyes as blue as the sea. She was the most beautiful and sought after princess in all the land. Every king, prince, duke and knight from the four corners of the world came to see her – hoping that they would be the lucky one to woo her and win her hand in marriage. The princess’s father, King Bernard IV of Shatilay, loved his daughter more than anything in the whole world. He wanted oh so much for her to find true love and live happily ever after! Night after night, he called her into his chamber. “My dearest daughter, did you find yourself a prince that suited you today?’ “No father, I did not!” she would reply. At this, the king would become angry. “Why will you not accept these prestigious offers of marriage? I am an old man, I have no son, no rightful heir. You must marry soon, my dear. In order to secure the safety of our kingdom!” “But father!” she cried, “I do not love these men. I am no fool! These men are perfect strangers who come knocking at my chamber, bringing me fine jewels and perfumes, telling me of their bravery, spinning their ridiculous tales of unbelievable adven
The princess was kneeled over spitting and wiping her mouth when she heard the laughter. She stood up to see all the suitors she’d ever turned down there before her, laughing. And with that, another suitor had failed. The princess walked sadly into her beautiful garden holding the golden ball in her hand. “Yes, father. I know that this is my true love. This is the prince I am going to marry!” There in front of her was a well. “Oh it must have fallen into the well!” she said, “But I might as well go and check it out just to be sure!” The princess walked slowly toward the well, looking about first to make sure there weren’t any people around. She wouldn’t want the king to hear she’d been out snooping around outside the castle walls. She peered into the well. Just as she did she saw something small and green flying up at her. “Um, don’t you mean, who was that?” came a strange, squeaky sounding voice.
