One of the key events to the United States success in the Persian Gulf was the decade of preparation prior to the Gulf War. The decade of preparation consists of two significant events: the build-up and the deployment. Detailed studies and analysis of logistics identified the need for pre-positioned supplies and ammo. The lessons learned from the gulf war will have important implications on the future of Aerospace Power such as mobility, advanced technology and precision guided munitions. The Air Force vision, “Global Vigilance, Reach and Power”, describes how imperative global awareness is for the US. The United States is the only nation with the ability to project the kind of power needed to suppress global aggression. This can be achieved through training and mobility of a rapid deployable force. The armed services have a secure foothold in strategic locations throughout the world at overseas bases. They provided many areas of responsibility (AORs) with pre-positioned equipment. The need for a rapid deployable force with the ability to mobilize in the future demands the need for a modernization of lift capabilities.
