H.w. AP History

1. What events in Great Britain contributed to the settlement of English colonies in America?

There were lots of reasons, which led Great Britain to colonize in America. Main reasons were: poverty and the conflicts between King and the Church. King Henry the eight wanted to marry Catherine of Aragon, but the Protestant church refused to give its permission for him to do so. This was one of the beginnings that led England into poverty. Between 1500 and 1650 Landlords decided to dislocate farmers to earn more profits. That caused lots of farmers to be left without a job and being forced into living very poor lives. But from the “Out of many” I can see that it was England’s fault. Captain Smith and his crew stall food from the tribe. In return, Algonquians stopped bringing provisions to the guests. That brought a great famine to the colonists and they even turned to cannibalism. In the passage, Smith reports that while his own people were dying very rapidly, savages took that advantage to settle the score. He said that one of the colonists was so desperate that he actually killed his own wife and then ate her, for which he was later persecuted. In order to stop Indians, another group of people was sent into Virginia. The plan worked a
