Hamlet

Throughout the play Hamlet, there are eight gruesome deaths where practically every main character had perished by the end of the play. Death is in issue for all characters as they try to assist, or plot against Hamlet. The plot is thick with revenge and secrecy among the characters while they all create their own demise by the conclusion of the final scene. Everything in Shakespeare’s Hamlet, revolves around the idea of death or dying.

There are many indications that relate to death in the play Hamlet. In (III I 515-572) Hamlet contemplates suicide during his, “To be, or not to be,” speech. He is unsure about himself and his belief in the ghost. He is wondering about life after death and whether he would be better off dead rather than carrying out his father’s revenge. This is included in the play because it deals with suicide, which is a viewpoint on killing oneself. Shakespeare wanted to obtain the various aspects of death and dying. He also obtained this thought when the clowns were talking about whether or not Ophelia was worthy of a Christian burial in (V I 20-21). Ophelia’s death was apparently an accident, but there was a go

Death and dying is the central theme for the entire play of Hamlet. Without it, Hamlet has no objective for an attempted revenge, and everyone is happy. Death is what started the play, (with King Hamlet’s death,) and death is what ends the play, (Hamlet, Gertrude, Laertes, and Claudius’s death). Death is what motivates all the characters to carry out their actions and act the way that they do, (Ophelia’s insanity because the death of her father). Every character responds differently to death because of their position in society and what has happened in the past.

Laertes was the foil to Hamlet in telling the king that he would kill Hamlet even if he was in a church (IV II 125). To Laertes, revenge had no boundaries. He was fueled by his sisters and fathers death. Claudius on the other hand, just wanted Hamlet dead for his strange actions and behaviors. Hamlet started acting loco after he spoke to the ghost, to cover-up his future actions. Claudius used Laertes rage and anger from Hamlet murdering his father, to complete his dirty work. He resulted to using this option after Hamlet escaped his death in England. Claudius didn’t want anyone to
