The first thing that captures a human eye and attention are the three photos on the top of the front page. The photos grow intensively from left to right as you are looking at them. These photos show the suffering, poverty and horrible conditions that the people have to live in, in their daily lives. The first picture is of a landscape; this picture tells us that the problem exists. There is a background of snow, which tells that winter has arrived and that it is cold. We already feel sorry for them and have an urge to donate. The second picture is of a man with a horse in a background of snow. We feel sympathetic towards their situation already. The third and final picture is of a child, which emphasises the innocence and we recognise it as a cry for help. Below the photographs there are some words in bold.              w words. The message is strong and clear and tells us that "together we can help them win.".
The letter does not set out to make us guilty but it does stir our conscience. The letter opens with "Dear Supporter" because this is a friendly and formal approach to start the letter. The letter is informative, it tells us when, where and what happens. It also gives extra details and informs us with the conditions that they live in and how we can help. They have informed us with the details of where the money and cause goes to and later on it provides us with the information about the three "gifts". When we know about the details we are more willing to donate the money. The letter encourages us to give where there are three options - you can donate five, ten or fifteen pounds. It encourages us to give with a feel- good factor. .
The Red Cross has used emotive language because it makes the letter more persuasive. The letter has also used personification.
