Humor And Stress In The Workplace
Role of humor in reducing stress in the workplaceWe work in a fast paced, highly stressful work environment. Our field of work can get really stressful especially when you feel business deals falling apart. Being the real estate agent it is our duties to keep the deals together, or find a replacement. Stress can build up to a point where it becomes unmanageable, as stress reflects on our daily emotions. There are some who would say, “there's good stress and then there's bad stress”. That's sort of like saying, “there are good heart attacks and then there are bad heart attacks”. Maybe there is some positive benefit to the stresses that will enhance our performance, but, for the most part, stress is a negative, keeping us from performing at peak levels, damaging our daily productivity, and decreasing the chances of our longevity. Many blame stress on external forces. “We are living in stressful times.” “This is a stressful job.” “My boss (husband, wife, co-worker, customer, client, kid, etc.) Is really stressing me out.” Others however, blame stress on internal forces. “I need to quit thinking about my problems, I’m just getting stressed out.” A death

A sense of humor goes beyond the point of someone tells you a joke, you laugh. Keep in mind the definition of humor I’ve stated earlier. Having humor in the workplace is not “I got a deal goes down hill. The buyers are backing out of their offer they made to my sellers. My sellers have already made an offer on another home considering the fact they had their house sold, and it is all falling on my shoulders. However, this is funny so I should just laugh it off.” NO! However, a person should keep in mind: humor is a playful approach, humor is a light attitude, openness, and acceptance—even enjoyment—of the unexpected, humor is a willingness to work with what you are given. According to the Humor Rules Consolation Firm: Humor is not telling jokes. Humor is not dismissing serious concerns. Humor is not disruptive. Humor is not derogatory. However, Humor is enjoy
