There are many alternative types of therapies one being juice therapy. This therapy involves the intake of a fruit or raw vegetable. A person may drink juice preventively to stay healthy, to treat a medical condition like cancer, or to produce a certain outcome, such as strengthening the immune system. Just like it is said that orange juice can help lower your chances of getting certain types of cancer. There are three plans used in juice therapy that differ from the amount of time a person is involved in the therapy and if other substances are included in their diet. For some people, adding fresh juice to their daily meal plan is sufficient. Others will embark on a juice fast for several days to cleanse their systems. There are two components of juice therapy date back thousands of years, fasting and juice consumption. Along with the continuing efforts of doctors and those who support juice therapy, it has become more widespread and will continue to grow. Christians believe that fasting can be done for one meal a day, just one day, up to as long as one month or however long God leads them. They feel it depends upon how the holy spirit speaks to them. When you juice your fruits and vegetables, you can lose some of the necessary dietary fiber, so you should take supplement of the fiber you will be losing if you juice. Another precaution to be taken when using juice therapy is to make sure that certain parts of the fruit are used because some can be toxic. An example of these carrot greens, rhubarb greens, and apple seeds which are toxic to our bodies and should not be juiced. (Swain, p.3) There are many benefits of using juice therapy. There has been research done that shows that having a diet high in fruits and vegetables can reduce the risk of heart disease, cancer, and diabetes. When commercial juices are made they are pasteurized and take the chance of losing some things that raw fruits and vegetables contain, such as vitamins, food enzymes, minerals, natural sugars and amino acids. "Moreover when ye fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
