The text gave an explanation on how all of these different facts worked and the effect they had on someone suffering with manic depression, but Jamison’s story put the text and notes into real life. She showed us the effect her illness had on her loved ones, colleagues, career, and everyday life. Something we weren’t able to see in the text and notes. So in a sense, the text and “An Unquiet mind” though different from each other,


The positive thing about reading a personal story that is right along side what you are studying is that a brighter picture is painted for you. The negative you’re only getting the story from one personal. Mood disorders is different for everyone especially since many mood disorders including manic depression is hereditary which allows the severity, symptoms, and treatments for each person all different. The point is, reading one personal story leaves out what happens if a person with manic depression is a male, poor, or has no support system. This can give some people the wrong idea when it comes to manic depression because those things as gender and social support system take a large toll on someone with manic depression. I feel maybe “An Unquiet Mind” could have included some of that information. It didn’t have to go into a large amount of detail, but just enough to let the reader know that Jamison’s particular case of manic depression could be
