Drucker calls for the need for an effective government. He states that knowledge has become a key resource. This means that knowledge is used as a basis of competition in the world economy. It determines a country’s standing and domestic prosperity. Drucker sees knowledge as a business. If we are using knowledge as a determinant of our society’s well being, our society will not be successful. If society is forced to learn in one way (formal education), a compromise will never be achieved. Instead of giving knowledge or education a definition, society should leave it up to the people to form their own definition of knowledge. This way, many different forms of learning fused together will create a stronger and more educated community, rather than one that is confined to only one way of thinking.

In my opinion, a true knowledge society would be one that reaped for the “common good.” I am in favor of an education that is well rounded; one that teaches not one, but many things. If one is specialized in only one field, how is that person expected to move along in a fast-paced world full of diversity? A true knowledgeable person is one who is balanced.
