Law enforcement accreditation is accepted means of maintaining the highest Standards of professionalism and delivery of law enforcement services. The process entails application, self-Assessment, and demonstration of compliance with more than 260 standards. Law enforcement executives that choose to have their agency accredited under this voluntary program will have examined all aspects of their operation.” Accreditation has long been recognized as a benchmark in many professions, and law enforcement accreditation provides participating agencies with a framework on which to build a solid written directive system based on sound management practices” (qtd. When availability is confirmed, the names of not less than seven (7) potential assessors will be submitted to the agency CEO. This list is called an Assessor Selection List (ASL). The agency CEO is allowed to strike up to three (3) potential assessors from the ASL. The list is then returned to the Commission, who will prepare the final team list. The actual number of team members will be no less than three (3) assessors, including one Team Leader. Every effort will be made to provide assessors from like-size and type agencies, however, availability will dictate team selection. The Commission will then give written notification to the applicant agency of dates the team will be on site, and the names and departments of team members. All team members MUST be Florida law enforcement professionals and certified by the C.F.A. prior to assignment. On the arranged dates the team will travel to the applicants locality and conduct the on-site assessment. Once the on-site assessment has been approved by the C.F.A., the team leader will contact the applicant agency accreditation manager for lodging and meal arrangements. The assessment team leader will also advise the accreditation manager of any special arrangements necessary for the conduct of the assessment (e.g. vehicle availability, handicapped accommodations.)
