Listening Skills


            Listening skills, like speaking skills, are very important in the working world. Not only will good listening skills put you at an advantage when it comes to following instructions, but if you are listening attentively, you will create a favorable impression with your supervisor.
             Listening is a combination of hearing what a person is saying and involving yourself with the person who is speaking. While effective listening does not require that you agree with what a person is saying, being able to respectfully hear another's point of view is an important skill to have. Good listening skills can be beneficial in friendships, family relationships, educational settings, and the workplace. .
             There are many ways for a person to be an effective listener. Some of those ways are:.
             1. Aknowledge what the person is saying. .
             2. Maintain relaxed body language and face the speaker. .
             3. Make eye contact to show that you are paying attention. .
             And.
             4. Focus on the speaker and WHAT THEY ARE SAYING. .
             When a person is talking to you, nod your head or acknowledge by saying something that tells the person that you understand them and that you know what he/she wants you to do. You need to maintian a relaxed body posture and also face the person that you are conversing with. This tell the person that you are talking to that he/she has your full and undivided attention. Also you need to make eye contact with the speaker. This is another way to show that you are paying attention to them. If you fail to make eye contact you may give the speaker the impression that you are not interested in what they are saying. Lastly, you should focus on the speaker and what they are saying. This is the most important thing you can do. You can listen but if you aren't focused on the speaker, you won't get all of the information.
