Little Women

It all begins in the dead of winter; The Christmas Season. The coldest one of all, were the war has made fuel for heating very scarce. While her husband is off at war, Marmee is left alone to raise their four daughters: Jo, Meg, Beth, and Amy.

On Christmas Eve, Marmee has just arrived home from passing out food to the less fortunate with a letter from her husband, the girls' father. The all gather together around the fire to read the letter. Afterwards, the girls are teary eyed. Marmee kisses them and they are off to bed.

Jo is longing to become a writer. So, every night she stays up late writing the script for soap operas. As morning comes she is the last one awake. The table is set, and food prepared for their Christmas feast.

As dusk falls, the girls are all up in the attic acting out Jo's play, which she reads from the local (fake) newspaper. As they are performing, their rich, next-door neighbors grandson watches from the window.

The 2 oldest girls: Jo and Meg, get ready to attend the Christmas Ball. While Jo is curling Meg's hair, there is a strange smell to the air. Amy screams, Megs hair is being singed. They continue digging through the old clothes bin for a pair of white gloves.

The next morning, Beth leaves to bring some food over to the Hummel's. When she gets there she learns that the youngest is very sick. When Beth arrives home she isn't feeling very well. Anna, their Grandma walks into Beth rooms and announces that she has just heard that two of the Hummel's children have gone to heaven. They have died of scarlet fever.

The following spring Meg attends a "coming out" ball. Beth sews her a dress, and she has to borrow one of Marmee's gloves because she has lost hers, the other girls decide to dress poor old Meg up in really fancy dress. Lawry is to show her off to everybody. She is admired and praised, like she has never been before.

Amy hat to go to Boston to read to their Great Aunt March, because Jo has to stay with Beth. She travels there with Lawry. Beth on the other hand isn't doing very well. Mr. Lawrence comes over with his personal doctor. Beth has a very high fever and there is nothing he can give her. Lawry sends for Marmee in Washington. Marmee isn't there twenty-four hours and Beth is feeling better. Although her heart will never be as good as it was.

As they get ready for another Christmas with out Father, the Lawrence's and Marches have a huge surprise for Beth. Mr. Lawrence has given her a brand new piano that was supposed to be a gift for his little girl before she died.
