However, I would like to begin by reading a quote that embodies the essences of my being. It comes from the New Living Translation of the bible; which is found in Galatians 6:9 “So don’t get tired of doing what is good, don’t get discouraged and give, for we will reap a harvest of blessings at the appropriate time.” I would like to allude to the fact that perseverance and my faith in GOD has been the key driving forces that have enabled me to obtain some of my lifelong dreams.

When I was a young girl, I never missed a homecoming football game. I was always fascinated by the halftime ceremony; which involved the crowning of the homecoming queen. This was the moment I eagerly anticipated every year and would secretly envision myself parading around that football field with that crown on one day. However, I would later discover that many cities, towns, communities

Fortunately, this would prove to be an experience that would enable me to develop an even closer relationship with GOD. And now I know that the scripture stated in Philippians 4:13 is true, “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” Whether it is in school, work, or making daily decisions in my life I know that this proclamation is true and applies to my life. Furthermore, I am able to embrace the challenges in my life and appreciate the ability of wearing the many hats that are assigned to me in life.

However, through countless hours of soul searching and a recommitment to my faith in GOD I would manage to continue my education and gain my associates degree in sociology a year after giving birth to my child. Besides being persistent and committed to both my dreams and goals, I found that my unyielding faith in GOD would prove to be the source of all my strength and purpose in life. I also found out that my journey had only begun. For instance, three months before I was to be married, my fiancé received a job that would take us to Kokomo, Indiana. I was faced with the challenge of being uprooted from a place that I had lived my entire life and was being taken away from my support system.

, and even countries have a set of road maps or master designs that all lead in one specific direction. Little did I know, that I would travel along my own contrasting road map that was going to lead me down a path of accomplishing some of my childhood dreams.

Take a journey with me if you will, back to a time in your life when you dreamed of being something great. Back to a time when you envisioned yourself becoming an astronaut, firefighter, doctor, teacher, or even a musician. I remember having the same kind of dreams as a child and would like to share some of those with you.

However, this journey would not go as smoothly as I envisioned due to the fact that I would be faced with the obstacle of becoming pregnant with my first daughter, Ladaziye. This challenge really seemed insurmountable at the time and forced me to search for my true source of strength. In May of 1992, my life would take on a new direction. I found myself alone, wondering how I was going to break the news to my boyfriend and my parents whom I was still living with. This was the one thing my mother always warned me of and “Did I listen? Unfortunately, not.” Immediately I was faced with the biggest dilemma and form of adversity in my life and there was no easy way to avoid confronting it.
