Napoleon: A Defender Or A Betrayer To The French Revolution
Every man is a maker of history. We all leave something behind when we are gone, however there are those that exceed this belief. Some men not only leave a mark on those they knew through out life, but they leave a lasting impression on the entire world. One such man is Napoleon Bonaparte, also known as “The Little Corsican” who was born on August 15, 1769. He has been the most dominant leader in history amongst the crowd of the greatest leaders. Why is Napoleon still famous in the 21st century? During the 19th century, Napoleon was a strong influence on the French and as a supporter of the French Revolution he broaden the ideals of liberty, equality, fraternity and nationalism with his military power also known as “coup d’etat”. Napoleon was a man with ambition, great self-control and calculation, a great strategist, a genius and whatever he embarked on, he was simply the best. In spite of his strong personality, something about the way he governed France still floats among people’s minds. Did he abuse his power? Did he defeat the purpose of the ideals of the French Revolution? After all his successes in the military campaigns, did he oblige the people’s needs regarding their id

The major cause of the French Revolution was the disputes between the different types of social classes in French society. The French Revolution of 1789 – 1799 was one of the most important events in the history of the world. The revolution led to many changes such as abdication of monarchy, nationalism and equality. The French Revolution belongs to one of the most significant chapters in the book of World’s history. Certain individuals blamed Napoleon for betraying the ideals of the French Revolution. They believed that he destroyed it by denying the French people the equality that they have risked the Revolution for. For instance, how the women were treated during his reign is what critics are critiquing Napoleon for today. There are always contradictions as to how Napoleon promoted equality among all people. During Napoleon time the women were isolated from the society by not receiving too many responsibilities in all aspects of life. In the eyes of Napoleon, he was actually protecting the women from the dangers and problems brought on during the revolution and the outside world.
